His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah

For more than four decades, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi has been leading an integrated cultural boom across all sectors in the Emirate of Sharjah, in accordance with a wise vision and a comprehensive strategy aimed at developing people in general, and children and youth in particular, for the purpose of improving their knowledge, expanding their awareness and preparing them for the future.

Under the patronage of His Highness, Sharjah has launched numerous programmes aimed at developing the creative, artistic, literary and linguistic skills of children and youth, in addition to a wide variety of reading, educational and theatre festivals. It has also enacted several laws that safeguard the rights of children. The Emirate was crowned as the world's first baby-friendly city in 2015, thanks to the many health facilities, services, institutions and places it provides for children, including breastfeeding-friendly nurseries.

His Highness has patronised several unprecedented initiatives targeted at children and youth. These include the establishment of the Children and Girls Centres in 1985, the Sharjah Children Parliament in 1997, the Sharjah Youth Shura Council in 2005, and the Sharjah Youth Centres in 2003.

Within the past few years, His Highness launched the School Theatre Festival and the Children Theatre Festival, with the aim of discovering talented students and offering them a sophisticated theatrical experience that would help form their awareness, in addition to a number of educational programmes that were launched.

As for initiatives designed to develop the artistic taste of children, Sharjah, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, has launched the Sharjah International Biennial for Children's Arts, Sharjah International Children's Film Festival, Sharjah Arab Children's Forum and Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, as well as numerous other forums and competitions. Furthermore, at the Arab level, His Highness launched the initiative to host the Arab Children's Parliament in Sharjah, which was widely welcomed by other Arab countries.

At the international level, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has patronised a number of initiatives for children’s education, health and knowledge, as well as for the support of refugee children and their families in several countries.

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, is a prominent humanitarian and philanthropist. She is also a leading advocate of numerous social causes such as cancer awareness, education, entrepreneurship, children’s and women’s empowerment and cultural heritage among others.

With the aim of building up a new generation of young male and female entrepreneurs in the Emirate of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi launched a number of community development organizations targeting children, adolescents and youth. The initiatives launched by these organizations aim to realize one of Her Highness’s priorities of empowering these segments by developing their talents, honing their personal skills and preparing them to be leaders contributing to the development of the country.
